LTTA 4 - Turkey
The fourth Learning, Teaching, and Training Activity (LTTA 4) of the Digital Teachers – Classrooms Without Borders Created with Digital Technologies project took place from March 6-10, 2024, in Mersin, Turkey, hosted by Yenişehir Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi. This LTTA focused on Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D Printing in Digital Education, equipping participants with the skills to integrate immersive technology and digital fabrication into teaching practices.
Participants explored VR's applications in education, learning how it enhances engagement, creativity, and hands-on learning in subjects like science, history, and engineering. The VRTEACHER project, introduced during the event, highlighted VR-based training for educators, preparing them to implement virtual teaching environments and digital simulations in classrooms.
A major focus was 3D printing technology, particularly its role in STEM education and Industry 4.0. Teachers engaged in hands-on training with the Tinkercad 3D modeling tool, designing customized 3D objects and implementing 3D printing methodologies in various educational fields. The FISH 3D Printing Curriculum was introduced, allowing participants to experiment with designing robotic fish components using additive manufacturing techniques.
By incorporating insights from previous LTTAs, this event was enhanced by:
- Blending VR and 3D printing applications, demonstrating how both technologies support interactive and experiential learning.
- Linking digital tools with STEAM education, showing their relevance across mathematics, biology, geography, and the arts.
- Encouraging digital collaboration, through platforms like eTwinning, EU CodeWeek, and Scientix, fostering cross-border knowledge exchange.
- Exploring real-world applications of technology, including VR-based teacher training and 3D modeling in architecture, engineering, and science education.
This LTTA empowered educators to embrace immersive technology, develop digital teaching competencies, and prepare students for the evolving technological landscape.
